If you want to save on a PC, right-click your finished picture and it will say something to the effect of "give me a sample". It will then be automatically be saved in your "My Pictures" folder, go and see

many people have asked about how to save the pictures, and for me (I have a mac) all the pictures are saved automatically to "my pictures"so double check there. I don't know how it works if you have a pc though.

Scott - Polaroid film is no longer in production, except for a a proposed limited re-release next year, that will probably be hard to come by. The only brand still manufacturing instant film is fujifilm, and most of the film fuji makes is only compatible with fujifilm instax cameras

Re; manipulation
Alot of artists had creative uses for SX70 type polaroids. The emulsion sandwiched in the image could be pushed around and distorted with tools like pens or burnishers. Swirly, crazy psychedelic image fun. Try building a mesh type smudge finger pixel manipulator into the software or use the fingertip Smudge tool in Photoshop. Tons of new fun for your fans, maybe?

Loved the 0.95 Mac version, made a donation for this fine stuff, but now with 0.96 Mac the interface is for 3/4 in the french language, OK big deal BUT : where is the creative option of saving different versions along the way? OK, beta and all that but I can't even go back to 0.95 which has this great option. NOT Happy !

Great program!! I love how the polaroids come out looking retro.
One thing I dislike is hi-res photos always get cropped in the program, so if the subject of the photo is not in the center it will almost always be cropped. I tried making photos smaller before using the program but that didn't work. Photos that are already at a low resolution don't get cropped or sometimes they do but not all that much.
Or am I missing an option that prevents this from happening?
on making a program like this! It's such a great idea! It's so nifty. The camera is so cute, and shaking the polariods is fun well done!

This pola is really nice .We can have different effects. But it will be better if we can name the pictures (direct on the pola). I found an other 'pola'(http://manuelbarzi.com/pola/) which we can do that, but not whith the same effects. Why not mixed the both?, it will be funny.

Finger Print Option
I remember there was an option to include the finger print on the photo or not. It's not there anymore. I would like to remove the Finger Print option, but can't. Please help with this. The Finger Print is getting in the way ! Thanx. and good job.

8/25 computer crashed and I lost 7 years of digital photos...no I didn't burn to DVD...a hard lesson learned. I'm on a borrowed computer until I can have a new one built for me so I've been despairing about my loss for days. But what the Lord taketh away he giveth back in spades because some how, some way I stumbled onto this site today. I shed real tears when I realized that I will actually be able to produce the much loved polaroid format. A million thanks for making this a possibility. New User..Great App! Jacob, On my Mac, photos automatically show up in MY Pictures- they have -pola on the end of the title.

my suggestion : a blackberry application. there is NO blackberry application for making polaroids (althouh there are several iPhone applications), i think it's missing.
there's always an error occured when i open this application,i already tried to remove it and re-installed but it always happend again..whats wrong?

Suggestion:
It's possible to drag photos from Photo Booth, in MacOSX, but it would be nice if the app itself could use the iSight camera to take instant photos, like with a real Polaroid, and not just like a conversor.
It would be cool to have more languages.

can you tone down the black shadows around the edges a bit? i think it will look more realistic because a lot of polaroids i see don't really have that black shadow along the edges other than that i love this!!!

When you take poladroid images they first appear scattered/movable over the desktop, ..i like this effect, but whenever you close the package/shut down, the iamges are saved to 'my images' as normal files. Is there a way to review the photos scattered over the desktop again?

Hi Jacob,
just to share with you, in case you use photoshop, it is very easy to add handwriten text over your poladroid image. That way you can choose your prefered font style and size, you can actualy add some more asimetrical writing, using diferent font size or even make it look a bit unstraight so that way it will for certain look like you actually wrote over the blanck space. I've been doing it and loved the result!

Bigger Picture
Hey,
I just downloaded the Polaroid Program for my mac, and i love it!!! the pictures come out amazing, but they all end up really small and the application is in french. The french thing isnt really a problem cause i understand it but i would love to know how to make my pictures bigger and be able to either print them or transfer the file to another application. If someone could help out, that would be fabulous

To get a weaker blur effect , make one without blur and another with blur on, then put in photoshop and adjust opacity of the top layer until happy.
My question, can I make very high resolution file like 6000x6000px ?
Also the Peter Gabriel album "III" uses a Polaroid on the cover with famous smearing of Polaroid, maybe in future version this effect?
It wold be fantastic if you create a Plug-in too one day, to use it in Aperture or Photoshop!.

I like the blur effect, but think that it is a little strong.
It would be great, if the blur effect could be set via slider (like the vignette).
BTW, Poladroid is a lot of fun and creativity.

If you talk about "blur" effect, you can disabled it from the settings panel. Otherwise, nothing has been modified about graphic treatment.

How about smooshing?
I used to manipulate 'roids by pushing the emulsion around with a stick before it 'set. The results were fantastic. Can you add this functionality?

coucou,
tout d'abord merci pour ce logiciel que j'affectionne particulièrement depuis plusieurs semaines
mais voilà depuis hier, rien ne va plus!!!! tout d'abord, ma version était soudainement "expirée" donc j'ai désinstallé pour réinstaller et cela ne fonctionnait tjs pas...
donc j'ai réessayé aujourd'hui avec la nouvelle version mais cette fois cela me marque qu'il me faut installer une nouvelle fois qu'il y a eu une erreur...
je suis pas des meilleures en info et j'espere avoir de l'aide car ce logiciel va me manquer sinon...
(j'ai Windows au fait)
it's me again. If you have the problem of expired than double click on the clock (bottom right), change date to 1st of January. Click okay. Start poladroid. NOW!! change back the date to today and have fun.

Hi, somehow doesn't this great software work anymore. But that's no problem - just go to your timesettings and adjust it to 1.01.2009 and it will work. By the way - GREAT SOFTWARE!!! www.fotokunst-schmidt.de

I *love* Poladroid!... EXCEPT the thumbprint. I love the dust specks, but I *HAAAAAAAATE* the thumbprint! I hate having to accept it if I want the dust specks too. When I get a random color cast that I like, the result is often ruined by the thumbprint. AGH! *please* make it an OPTION to be turned off! Otherwise, THANKS for this.. LOVE IT!

Feature Requests
First: I love it. I was thinking of buying a Polaroid camera but I guess now I'll buy a digicam and simply throw all shots into the Poladroid.
Besides the vintage awesomeness it would be great to have some kind of 'advanced' mode:
- Option to disable the developing time and get the result instantly
- Infinite cartridge
- Further tweaking of the stripes thing. I like the stripes but the fingerprints or somewhat disturbing sometimes.
- Cleaner programming. Why don't you check whether there are running processes instead of showing the annoying dialog on every quit?

First: kudos for a great app
Second: kudos specifically for however you figure out how to crop for square. I am a mazed at the good taste of the algorithm logic. Don't want to know the secret sauce, after all the competition might steal it .. but really curious
THIRD: sometimes I find I would like to tweak the final result somewhat. A photoshop shortcut/ recipe/ pointers that would preserve the look would be great
Then when I do tweak there is the problem of getting the white frame back to an appropriate color .. dunno how to address that besides learning a bit more of photoshop
Lastly an app to approximate a handwritten note would be a GREAT addition to this program. As it is, the standard methods only give straight lined typed words.. only alternative is buying stylus .. much simpler if you could provide the appropriate app with a few writing styles.

Session Won't Restart
Love this program but after making 10 polaroids, the program said I had to restart my session - but when I click on the program to start it, nothing happens. Is this just my computer?

Je ne crois pas. Cela semble plutôt lié au fait que je copie le traitement POLAROID et que j'utilise le FRAME (contour blanc) historique autour de la photo. En gros, que je créé une confusion avec le procédé POLAROID.
Lorsque j'ai demandé à APPLE la raison exacte du refus, voici la réponse que j'ai obtenue : your application named POLADROID appears to include features that associate with POLAROID or resemble Polariod photographs.
Et si le problème venait de l'icone du logiciel qui représente un appareil polaroid (et pas un poladroid) ? et pas du logiciel ou d'une quelconque volonté de nuire.
C'est une question que je me pose.

Je suis régulièrement effaré par la stratégie commerciale d'Apple, et d'avantage dans le cas présent.
A force de vouloir tout contrôler dans les moindres détails, Apple se perd souvent dans des méandres d'illogisme dont Dominik subit les conséquences.
Poladroid est une application tout simplement géniale qui apporte à une photo, souvent banale, le zeste de poésie et d'aléatoire qui manque à la photographie numérique.
Nombre d'applications "open source" ou libres valent la peine d'une donation pour soutenir leur auteur et Poladroid en fait largement partie!

how come every time i download the software for mac, there's this exception error number 2 dialog box that appears? it says that the application must shut down. so i close it, then download it again but it doesnt work still. the first time i downloaded it, it worked. next time i tried, it doesnt anymore! how come? what should i do? im using a macbook pro. thank you!
come on no-one carries a polaroid with them all the time, its nice to get the snapshot feel to photos from any event. i'm a fan of the polaroid and holga but they're so unreliable.
and tbh you can do the same effects in photoshop that the poladroid does anyway

Both of you sound like sour grapes. The reality is, the only chance instant films have a chance of surviving is increased interest on the part of the public, that said, I think it is an uphill battle as the world has shifted to digital so widely. IN REAL TIME a real polaroid will have significant value as a result of its physical properties, but in the digital world, it has (And always has had) less value then ANY picture who's source is digital if for no other reason then the fact it is a film being scanned, etc.
I have 4 real polaroid cameras that I have not been able to buy picture cartridges for some time (1 of which is actually my first digital photo printer for my computer-gasp real polaroids from digital pictures how scandalous) and I have 1 camera that the cost of the film and availability makes it nearly impossible to use, I have 3 digi cameras however that I can enjoy taking pictures from any day of the week and I can run thru poladroid and get the same image I would have scanned.
So instead of barking up negative on this tree, why not keep to the positive that this program could revitalize interest in the real film.

i think what u said is on a lot of polaroid enthusiasts' minds. this software's not all that bad, but the problem is the growing number of people who love it so much. before we know it, these images will easily outnumber real polaroid pics and most people won't even know it (except for the people who sell instant films, and eventually people who have to buy them at a higher price).
Okay, I would agree that it's pretty cool to create Polaroid-like images easily without having to worry about the cost of the films. I will also admit that some effects are cool. And when you take it to the next level by making an iPhone version, i mean, kudos to that. Really.
But what makes me sad is the fact that when anyone who uses this software shows off their "photos" to other people, some people (a lot of people, I think) will actually believe that they're really taken by Polaroid cameras. Or when someone sees an actual Polaroid photo, they might think that it's created by this software. Either way it decreases the value of real Polaroid images and hurts the pride of real Polaroid users. If you could perhaps add a watermark on the outcome, then maybe that can help our feelings a little. True, people may still remove the watermark from Photoshop or such, but that will be the extra work they'll have to go through. And they'll realize that they're fooling others as well as themselves (fooling others is worse though).
As someone who's making a push for an instant photography community in my country, I hope you and everyone can see my concern.
Note: To me, the processed images seem more Lomo than Polaroid though.

Wow..first off, I can't believe all the negative comments on here. It's supposed to be a fun little FREEEEEE program and people are acting like the creater is destroying a way of life. I suggest y'all relax and worry about the other, more important things in life while making some cool poladroids. Anyways...I love the program!! I downloaded this great application and got fabulous results, now I can no longer get it to work after removing it and reloading it as instructed. I would love to use it again. Please help. I agree, if you are a purist then just don't use it, let the rest of us have fun.

My collection of Time Zeros shot with my SX-70--that's awesome, that's cool. Putting a fake Polaroid frame around a digital image is nothing short of pitiable.

Nice program.
Windows version runs fine in GNU/Linux under Wine (except drag&drop, but jpeg files can be selected using the menu).

This is not the most easy way to create polaroid photo. and the created photos have some anti-aliasing problems. Try following. I discovered on Google.
It would be nice if the polaroids could have some anti-aliasing around the edges while they're sitting on the desktop, the jagged edges when they're really tilted looks kinda nasty

I love the program. I wonder if there's a way to make the resulting photo slightly less focused. It still looks a little too sharp and digital to be a Polaroid.

This is definitely cool! The only complaint I have is the tinge and vignetting on the Polaroids this program makes.. It's almost the wrong colors :/
I do think it's a nice mask so to say, but not completely Polaroid-like.

Great job. And FUN! BUT I used 100s of Polaroid SX-70 film packs in my day and I KNOW that the color of the developing film (masking agent) was NOT brown, it was a slightly blueish white.

I tried converting my jpeg files, but after converting it all, computer only says can't save file (error; jpeg not save) ...and words that I can't understand...

Thanks - this is fun. I'm not sure why people are so worked up - emotions run deep around the "real" Polaroid, I guess, but this is clearly not the real Polaroid. My parents were big Polaroid lovers, so I grew up with real Polaroids - which gives me some option ideas... I don't suppose you could make the computer have that Polaroid developing *smell... but you could make the photos DISAPPEAR after several years - or, if you're going back to the really old Polaroids, stick to anything that gets close to them on humid days.

Naysayers
I am 45 and have been taking photos since I was ten when I got my first camera. This product was never meant to replace the real polaroids and was never meant to replace "real" photography, which is more subjective today than it ever was. What makes a good photo is in the eye of the beholder as they say. Whether you use film or digital is not the point, it is the end result. The person who takes a photo and places the end product out there for you to see is showing you the world from their perspective, how they see it or would like to see it, and they want to share that with you.
If you don't like the product, just delete it and leave. Meanwhile, those of us who do like it will continue to use it and contribute. If there is ever a paid version I will buy it. If there is ever an iPhone version, I will buy it.
This is a great and fun application and many people enjoy it. It has not killed the real polaroids nor film photography.

Uh, fellas? Yeah, it's not going to exactly replicate the experience and aesthetic of a real Polaroid picture. Just like almost all so-called "film look" filters in video editing programs can't hide the fact that you're not shooting on real film. But given that Poladroid is fun, looks kinda cool, and is TOTALLY FREE, you could probably stand to be a little less bitchy. Just sayin'.

For all "negative minds", it's so simple : if you don't like the software, don't use it. Or try to program a better one. If you like real Polaroids, then it's your choice.
For sure, Poladroid will never give you the feel of a real camera, but it tries to emulate this dead technology, just like emulators for Amiga computers and other old things...

Great. Instead of taking real instant prints now I can use a crappy Powershot camera and then go home, plug it into my computer and print it on my piece of crap printer using 'photo' paper that costs more than Polaroid film did. And all that to get horrible results. And that oversaturated cross processed look and the Holga style vignetting are totally wrong, that has nothing to do with Polaroid. At least people see that and know this is a joke.

so the format that ruined real Polaroids wants to beat the dead horse, and bleed every last bit out of it by still showing an interest. But of course only with a lower quality imitation of the original. How could you not see this coming? Right down to the cross-processed slide film look.
Everything with digital is about convenience over quality. Laziness over skill. Fake over real.
i'm so happy ILFORD is supporting this (http://www.the-impossible-project.com/) and they're also fighting to keep darkrooms in schools, where people can learn real photography. As opposed to the effortless operation of a digital image capture device.

On mac you could add the ability to use the built in isight to take direct polaroids. That would be pretty cool.

Hi Paul, many thanks for a BRILLIANT app! I'm here with a feature request. Can you copy over some of the existing EXIF tags from the source photos into the new Poladroid photos? The most important ones would be the time and date. I know other EXIF tags such as focal length, shutter speed, etc don't matter as much, since these are reprocessed, but if you do carry over some basic EXIF tags, photo management software such as iPhoto and Picasa can make good use of meta-data.

The "Download request not authorized" is only shown when the user clicks on download links two times (double click) or clicks from an outside link.
The first time (click), the download process is running... it's why, you must wait few seconds (exactly, 10 seconds) before trying again.
Another point : read correctly the message on the Download request not authorized" window .
This is : Wait 10 secondes...
Please, try again in 10 seconds before launching another downloading from the download area.
The downloading can begin with a little bit of latency. Be patient. Thank you.
That page will be refreshed after 10 seconds and you'll be redirected automatically into the DOWNLOAD AREA.

Hello, I got the same error message when trying to download the english Mac OS X version. I use Firefox 3.0.5 on Mac OS X 10.5.6. After the Java dropdown window telling me that on the next page the download will start after 10 seconds, the new page comes up with this error message, and after 10 seconds the browser returns to the download page without anything else happening :c(

apres avoir essaye des plug-in pour Gimp pour obtenir un rendu polaroid, sans succes sur imac, j ai trouve ce jour ce petit logiciel, 10Mo a telecharger, pour mac et windows.

Thank you so much for realeasing this for free to us. ♥ I just downloaded the Windows version and i'm loving it. ;D I have a couple of suggestions though, i don't know if you'll read this, but anyways... Maybe you should give us an option to use the stripes/dust/scratches effect, with or without those finger prints on it, cause sometimes they appear on a place that kinda ruins the picture. Like when they appear right on top of someones face, it looks weird. And the other suggestion i have is that sometime in the future you could maybe release a Photoshop Action only for the image effect without the frame, so we could use it on rectangular pictures, instead of just squared ones. That's all, i hope you consider this on future versions of this amazing program. And i wish you great success on this wonderful project of yours, i'm sure it'll be even greater that it already is. Bye! (:

I downloaded it about 4 times until I realized that I had to click on the camera. I tried 1 picture & it worked OK. I went to do another one. It would not work. I quit & reloaded & it worked OK. The download puts folder Applications in my applications folder, but I can't open the program without re-downloading it. I am using an iMAC with OS 10.5.6.
What am I doing wrong?

Essaye de désinstaller, virer les 2 plist (Poladroid prefs.plist et Poladroid.plist) dans user/bibliothèque/préférences, puis réinstalle.

okay, i got it running. basically it is an image of a camera that I drag a photo into, it 'snaps' then I save it as a jpg. am I missing something? I'm not complaining--its pretty cool. I just thought there might be more, well, options.....

I have an idea for a photography book. For the new year (2009) I was thinking of taking one polaroid a day. Not a real polaroid, but a digital photo and turn it into a polaroid via www.poladroid.net and then at the end put all 365 photos into a book and publish/sell it. What do you think of the idea? News about WINDOWS version
The beta release is almost ready.
POLADROID is not a full time job. I've got another life, with a family (and childs) and a job with several other activities.
I'm so sorry for the delay. But I promise that WINDOWS version's coming soon, very soon. I work hard : I try to fix several small issues. The goal is to get the most stable beta Windows version as possible.

Hélas, mes petits lutins ayant séché leur stage de perfectionnement en programmation, je reste seul pour boucler les derniers petits détails. Par ailleurs, je reste indécis sur la sélection du papier cadeau et surtout la couleur du ruban (rose pour les filles ? Bleu pour les garçons ?)... donc bon... Ce n'est donc pas un bug, juste un soucis de temps lors de la préparation du package initial (je m'en suis d'ailleurs excusé).
Pour le TIFF, ce n'est pas forcément si primordial que çà : je suis parti du postulat que le JPEG était largement plus supporté que le TIFF. De plus, la compression n'est pas forcément un handicap sur des images de la taille d'un POLAROID, encore moins si l'on considère qu'il est paramétrable (donc moins destructif 10) et que les imperfections font parti du folklore d'un POLA.
Les prochaines versions supporteront plusieurs formats de fichiers dont PSD, TIFF et PNG.
I love this idea! I have a Macbook on the way so I'll be able to use this program as soon as I get it. I can't wait to see this for myself.

Everyone just wants to have some fun. Why bother? Maybe it is because now everyone can play "Polaroid" in the internet and you are just holding your pail of papers? I believe everyone who got eyes can tell what is the differences. So if you dun like this, why dun you leave this site and play with your own Polariod and hear the sound of a true polaroid camera ALONE while we are all having fun with this TOGETHER. You just sound so gay and disgust everyone.
Have you ever tryed the REAL POLAROID EXPERIENCE?
It's like that:
You go and pick a Polarois Camera for you.
Than you buy some cartridge.
After that you go (by yourself or with friends) to every place you think it's interesting.
Find a nice spot.
SHOOT, hear the sound of a true polaroid camera, see the picture coming out of the camera and wait!
That's all...but it was great!
And the best thing is...you have some real polaroid to keep...and you were not in front of the computer listening to digital sounds of a polaroid camera!

As I stated to someone else: Why would I want to use a mac? Because I want to exist in a closed loop? Because I want to pay more money? Because I want pretty hardware? For the price of a macbook pro I could build the desktop of the future.
Give the PC vs. Mac tired argument a rest. Especially since Linux trumps both.
Let's just talk about Poladroid, and how it may have changed the way you take photos or the kinds of things you want to take pictures of.

we should all be supporting this project and supporting eachother. once the windows version is released it'll open up a much much larger audience and the man will get more well deserved donations!
Im disgusted on how half of these mac enthusiasts are acting, in the end they are all computers and you know what? the way macs are heading they use PC parts now anyway, a lot of the guys at work that use mac are dual booting into windows.
Both operating systems have pros and cons so lets stop arguing about it and support and donate this awesome project!

Thank you so much, this little piece of software is a gem! Loads of fun and much cheaper than the (almost non-existent) film. Version 2.0 should let you play with the emulsion while it develops It may not be the real thing but at least it will live on after the real thing is gone.
iPhone app sounds like a brilliant idea - as long as Polaroid doesn't sue!

Nice application... do you think it's going to be available for X-mas? It would an awesome christmas gift...
I've recently tried the Poladroid app on a mac and i found the tool unique and useful as i can't seem to by any film anymore so my Polaroid is just sitting there collecting dust, However this is a great application to use ^^ i will use it but if i ever get my hands on the original stuff i will use that =D as film i love more than digital.
I can't wait to use it on windows *thumbs up*
It would be cool if there was some sort of app on the PSP which used the psp Camera etc.

Polaroid film will not be made anymore. So, it is kind of dying out. Unless people can afford to buy jacked up prices for what will be old stock. As much as I love the real thing too, I can't afford buying from people selling it for 3 or 4 times the original cost.

if you want to talk about polaroids, go to a polaroid forum. polaDroids are an art form as much as anything else so whether or not you want to do it is not a topic of discussion that we really care about. In the meantime I think I'll head over to cubism.net and tell them how dumb they are.
I'm sure none of the 30something thousand downloaders have ever held a real polaroid in their hands. Luckily, my computer prints them out from jpegs and psds. (I'm being ironic. I know it was a rhetorical question, but it was really dumb.)

Seriously, the real thing is so, so, SOOOO much better!! Ever held a real polaroid you just shot in your hands? I'm telling you, it's one of the most awesome feelings ever. It can't compare to whatever you're trying to do here.
And Polaroid is far from being dead!! Just look at http://www.polapremium.com .. (I'd recommend keeping an eye on the site!)

I cant believe this! it is the best thing that happened to me this week... i live in mumbai.. close to where the blasts have been.. the only thing that take my pain away are photos.. and then i rediscover some thing that seemed to have been lost... i have always loved polaroid and its colours!!!

This program is great, it revealed some pictures I made, and helped me to go back through older pictures. I have it in my dock, and drop a few images a day on it. So easy and so much fun. Sometimes, Id'like it to be "faster", but that's part of the fun.
How much do you have to pay Polaroid for this. They've been suing other polaroid-like tools in the past. (where their advocats claimed to have copyrighted the exact fotmat... pfft) Well, don't bother, I'm just wondering how you get away with this...

Poladroid saves automatically - after treatment - pictures into your "Pictures folder". To modify this parameter : Open "Preferences" window...
Printing is not implemented but you can do it by "Preview" (double-clic on the Poladroid picture and Print it
